Sony's DRM fiasco...

Sony, Sony, Sony... What a mess... Shame on you !

More on the still unfolding story here...

Hang Up and Drive...

This is so true, it's not even funny... And I don't even drive a motorbike at all... Plus, what with all the gadgets that go into cars these days, it isn't going to improve anytime soon... In this country, using your mobile phone is only allowed if it's a hands-free kit... But the fine for using a handheld one, and the chance of getting caught, are so small it's not even worth considering... Many studies have already indicated that even talking on a hands-free phone increases your risk of an accident at least fourfold... Something to consider, no?

Upgrade not always smooth...

Apple has always tried to make its computers, iPods, and software very user-friendly. And even though I'm sure much testing goes into each item before it is released to the general public, sometimes there are 'issues'... Painful issues.

End of Skype as we know it?

Dark clouds over Skype? Ebay's purchase of the well-known VOIP company Skype has apparently not everyone very happy... Is this the beginning of the end, or merely the end of the beginning ?

Did you say 300 Gb ?

The battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray has barely commenced, of here comes this announcement... As an avid movie buff, and a future home-theater owner, this sure has got my interest peaked...

All Things Google...

Google has been very busy of late. It seems like almost every week there is a new service being announced. Of course, being one of the biggest and most widely known dotcom companies generates a lot of newsprint of its own, but the great folks at Google do wheel out an inordinate amount of new things on a regular basis. Everyone knows that if you are looking for something, anything, on the internet, Google is a good start. If what you are looking for is contained in a scholarly report, Google Scholar might be more refined. Likewise, Google Book Search is trying to compile a complete database of all books ever written, so that you may search through them. Ambitious, and immensely cool. You will be able to read things, from the comfort of your own home, that you would never have seen otherwise. If you're into reading and RSS, and want to stay on top of your subscriptions from any computer that has a web browser, then sign up and import your subscriptions into Google Reader. Maybe you write your own book(s). Submit them to Google Print and promote them for free. Or what if you wish to search for images on the internet : Google Images can sure help you there. Search or submit videos for others to see? Go to Google Video. Search blogs ? Google Blogs has got you covered. Want to write your own blog? Try the free Blogger. Interested in a particular topic. Either create a group of like-minded enthusiasts, or search for one at Google Groups. Want to stay up-to-date with what is happening in the world? Read Google News. Want to do this from your mobile phone? Google Mobile can help. Peruse the latest mail-order catalogs or search for something in them? Google Catalogs. Trying to compare prices on things you would like to buy, and get the best deal? Try Froogle. Then go to Google Local and find exactly where that store is physically located, as well as getting driving directions to get there. How about searching through free classified listings and other user-generated content, like recipes or anything that anyone wants to have available to the wider internet community? Google Base. Want to know what 馬鹿 means in English ? Try Google Language Tools. Want to have a look at your house or place of business or anything on earth via satellite? Go to Google Earth. How about keeping all of your email forever and forever, for free. Google Mail (GMail) is up to 2.6 Gb and counting... More than enough for anyone's immediate needs. How about staying in touch with all of those chat buddies? Check out Google Talk. Trying to organise all the digital snapshots you have on your computer? Let Google's Picasa help you with that. Want some of this info constantly available and updated on your desktop ? Get the Google Desktop. Or add the Google Toolbar to IE or Firefox, giving you many more cool options in those browsers. About the one thing I can fault Google for, as an avid Mac-user, is that most of these downloads are only available for PC-users. Shame, shame, shame... But I understand that improvements in this are in the pipeline... Wow, what a company... And they have many more things in the works. Some insights interesting developments, like Click-to-Call AdWords, and even steps into the world of 'venture capital', so to speak.

Roman Catholic Church stays in the Dark Ages under Pope Benedict XVI

Well, it's official. The Roman Catholic Church sees no need to advance from the middle ages to the here and now, as if there was ever any doubt on that score... How can you 'overcome' your own self? No wonder there are so many priests being accused of child molestation... Repressing natural sexual feelings is stupid, dear Benedict XVI, and virtually impossible. Why not let priests live 'normal' lives, so that they could better appreciate what their flock is living through. And in this day and age of HIV and other diseases, not allowing people to protect themselves is borderline criminal... Guess that makes me a 'bad' catholic, eh?

For the adults...

Ever heard of liquid condoms ? Or do you know how to travel inconspicuously with your sex toys, what with airport security scanning your luggage in front of plenty of mostly unapproving strangers? And just what the hell is this ? Only the Japanese can come up with something like that... Robotic relief, indeed. And just what kind of gift do the gals give to themselves these days ? Remember Heidi Fleiss... Not a bad idea, this...

Anyway, this and more on this blog. Another interesting one on this subject is this one... Or if you wish to know what NY Escorts write about, read here...

Update : how about this story on The Toy ? The wonders of modern communications and Bluetooth reach new heights... Or is that depths ?

Apple reveals PowerBook with see-thru screen... & Cult Of Mac Blog

Apple has quite often stretched the boundaries of the cutting-edge when it comes to releasing new products. But after the multi-color iMacs and iBooks, and the Titanium PowerBooks and PowerMacs, Apple seems to have come up with the next-generation PowerBook that features a transparent screen. Watch this video. Is this cool or what ?
Read on for more on this new Mac...

And check out this blog on the 'Cult of Mac'... Well worth reading...

X-mas Decoration Gone Mad !!!

X-mas is approaching (according to the retailers anyway). How best to decorate the house and spread a cheer throughout the land and bring peace onto all ? Like this ? Stunning, but not ranking high on the 'keep the neighbors happy' scale, methinks...

30 Million iPods... Wow !!!

Well, we all know the iPod is a runaway success. We see more and more of them every day, wherever you go. Apple recently announced that it has shipped more than 30 million of them since the player's debut in October of 2001. More info here. There is even a skit on Saturday Night Live where "Steve Jobs" announces new iPod models. Watch the video here. Very cool!

Seriously, though, there are quite a few interesting accessories that have appeared for the various iPod models.

Like the Griffin iTrip for the iPod nano.

Or the more religious amongst us can now show their faith and "shuffle" around anyway... Or is that for listening to the latest podcast from their spiritual leader? Hallelujah !!!

For those that wish to appear somewhat more stylish, there is the Belkin kickstand for the video iPod. Looks nice...

Unfortunately, one nastier side-effect of people showing off their expensive iPods in public, is that they might get stolen. To avoid that, you can always try the PodLocker. But you better make sure your pants can withstand the strain...

And here's a fantastic hint on what Apple should bundle with every iPod sold... World domination next?

Getting Rich Pixel by Pixel...

Wouldn't we all like to be rich someday ? Well, I guess we could play the Euromillions, or find a spouse with deep pockets. Or we could try what Alex has done?

Interesting stuff again...

Interesting stuff time again...

How about a pillow which records your snoring? The perfect Christmas gift, undoubtedly...

Or perhaps better get your loved ones one of these : The Gundam Rasor !
Away those bristly beard hairs !!!

Or how about a light that looks like it's climbing your wall ? Sort of looks like a giant bug, if you ask me... But hey, one can't argue tastes...

I do know many of us have had babies recently, and that there are many more of you who will. So, what better gift to get for those wishing to commune with their unborn? The Baby IQ of course... Coming soon from South Korea...

But eventually, and almost inevitably, the time to clean up comes around, and that means vacuuming first, right ? Always need a space to put this damn utility when it's not in use, right ? How about just sitting on it ? Cool or what ? Not...

If you are like me, and you have built up a fairly large collection of music, and have them encoded on your computer in mp3 or similar formats, the next coollest thing to do is to have them play in as many places as possible around the house. You can already easily stream wireless audio to stereos all over the house. But what about the bathroom ? Like when you're brushing your teeth, or using the 'commode' ? Yep, that is also possible... Amazing, ain't it ?

And finally, for those poor souls among us, who suffer from frequent zits. Get yourself this zit zapper from Zeno, and get rid of them more effectively...

RTF EULA !

RTF EULA... Say again? Read the f***ing End-User License Agreement... Words of wisdom, but does anyone ever really read these things we get to see when we install stuff on our computers ? I bet most of you just click them away... Yes, yes, we agree, now install the damn stuff already... Still, for those who take their time reading them, choice, but not entirely innocuous, morsels may be contained within the mind-numbing legalese... Stuff like this...
