My Canon cracked...

Last year January, while on a trip in California, my then photo camera died on me, and in order to at least get some nice pictures of the vacation, I bought a new Canon PowerShot SD550, the then top-of-the-line of their compact digital cameras. I always had had good experiences with Canon, and had been a very happy customer with their quality products.

A few days ago, I removed the camera from its casing, only to discover that somehow the LCD screen on the rear of the camera body had cracked. The camera remains fully functional, but the absence of the screen renders it almost useless. One cannot see the selected functions, remaining battery life, anything of use really...

I phoned up Canon support, and after a while on hold, got a very unfriendly gentleman on the line, telling me that the one year warranty, which could have covered my camera, anyway did not apply, as I bought the camera outside Europe. Canon, being a global company, does not globally support its products. I guess that is their prerogative, but I find it rich that they offer the same product in both the US and European markets (with a different 'marketing' name, as it is called the Digital IXUS 750 over here, but since the manual has both those names on it, it can't be more than cosmetic), but only cover their warranties locally. From a consumer standpoint, that SUCKS !!!

Suffice it to say, that I will not be a Canon customer in future. And I would urge you all to consider this story, as it could happen to any one of you... Read the fine print carefully... BEFORE you buy something from a reputable company...

Apple's welcome to 2007...

I hope this is true...

Let's see what happens at MacWorld Expo next week...
